The MLA is an agreement between You and Magnolia International Ltd. It defines the general terms and conditions of our business relationship. It grants you a license to use the Magnolia CMS software and defines support services, fees and warranties. Please contact us to get an MLA for your project.
The Magnolia License Agreement (MLA) entitles you to:
The main benefit of a subscription is that there is no up-front license to be paid. The License Subscription commonly is booked as software maintenance cost. If you prefer upfront licensing, please contact us directly for a quote.
If you discontinue your Magnolia License Agreement, you lose the right to use it. The termination clauses defined in the MLA will take effect.
The short answer is no.
The Magnolia License Agreement (MLA) is a commercial license, i.e. you pay money for the right to use the Magnolia Enterprise Edition under the terms of the license. If you use or download the EE, you agree to the license terms. Please read the MLA to understand the agreed upon terms.
Copying anything from the Enterprise Edition does not change the fact that you are using software that is licensed under the MLA, to which you are bound. The MLA gives you the right to test EE for 60 days (see MLA for exact terms), after which you are obligated to delete every trace of it from your system, or pay the full license fee.
We have no concurrent licensing scheme. Our license agreement makes Magnolia Software available per server. You may create as many users as you like.
Magnolia Enterprise Edition is a commercial product built by the same great team that brought you the Magnolia Community Edition. It offers significantly more features, the availability of professional support and an upgrade/migration path to new versions, which is exactly what you would want for mission critical enterprise content management.
The Enterprise Edition is licensed via the Magnolia License Agreement (MLA). The MLA allows you to modify the source code of Enterprise Edition for your own use, but disallows distribution or deployment of the binary. You need to buy an Enterprise Edition license for every server on which you run your modified Enterprise Edition. (Please see the license for exact details, this FAQ entry only sums up the points in plain English and is no replacement for the license).
Yes, every new server needs a license. See the next question about what is a server.
All prices are per server and per year unless noted otherwise. With respect to the license, one server is defined as follows:
a) runs on a physical server or virtual machine or cloud based service (each a “virtual server”)
b) each virtual or physical server is assigned to not more than eight cores (or vCPUs in case of Amazon EC2)
c) each virtual or physical server can have up to two Application Servers (i.e. Web Containers)
d) each Application Server can have one Magnolia instance.
Please read the Magnolia License Agreement for all details. If you have any doubt what constitutes a server or how many licenses you need, please contact us.
Production servers have to be licensed. This includes production instances which are part of the publishing process. These can be author, staging or public instances. There are no additional charges for dev and test instances.
With a Magnolia server license, an unlimited number of servers can be used for:
These are considered non-production instances. You are not allowed to process production content or production information on a non-production instance. In order to test in-context, you are allowed to copy and use content from a production instance.
Staging instances connected to author or public instances, used to stage and review production content, are considered production systems.
A hot standby server is considered part of the publishing process. Each hot standby server is charged 50% of the license fee.
Typically, your subscription to the Magnolia License Agreement (MLA) will automatically be prolonged for one year once the initial contract term ends, unless you (or we) cancel the subscription at least 30 days before it terminates. Please check your contract for exact terms & conditions. You will receive a new invoice with the new applicable subscription fees. Please read the MLA for details.
The "License Negotiation Option" is part of the Enterprise Edition Pro and allows you to negotiate license terms with our legal department. Note that this is not possible for the Enterprise Edition Standard (where the "standard" refers to "standard license terms").
Only Swiss customers add 8% Value Added Tax. Florida customers add applicable Sales Tax.
